How to Call & Run Between Wickets
Teaching your kids how to call and run well between wickets...
Early on in their development...
And continuing to master this skill...
Is exceptionally important and will play a huge role in their success as a batsmen.
It will help them score more runs, be a great asset to the team, and build their confidence.
Such a Common Problem:
It's also something that I see so many kids and even teenagers (including 1st VI players) really struggling with and quite simply getting wrong...
Leading to run outs, missed runs, lowered confidence and ultimately poorer performances!
So, if you want your young cricketer to score lots of runs...
Then they need to learn how to CALL and RUN BETWEEN WICKETS well.
You must get this right.
Here is a list of things you need to teach and get right when it comes to teaching how to be master's at running between wickets, stealing runs and ultimately scoring more....
- Calling: Who must call the run, how you must call and what words to use.
- Where You Can Run: There is a Protected Zone on the pitch that you are not allowed to run on, and you also need to ensure you run so that you have a clear path to the other side without crashing into your team mate or any fielders/bowler.
- How to Hold Your Bat and Swopping Hands: Which hand you hold your bat in will effect your ability to turn correctly (the next point) and how you hold the bat will dictate how far you can reach when trying to make ground and get in, so this is really important to get right.
- How to Turn: When you turn you need to be facing the correct way to see where the ball is and the fielder who is fielding it, so that you can make a correct decision of whether to take another run or not.
- Sliding Your Bat In: When you're trying to make it in to not get run out, you need to be able to slide your bat in at full reach, without it getting stuck on the ground. So it's important to learn how to do this correctly.
- The Non-Striker: Where to stand, how to back-up correctly and be ready to run quick runs without getting run out.
- Practicing: It's important to specifically practice all these aspects running between wickets and calling so that it becomes second nature for you or your kids.
